Compay Education Volunteers
Compay Education Tours was formed to help individuals who wish to get to know Cuba and it's people in a way that most tourists don't get to experience. We work with students at the University of Havana helping them develop their second language skills.
Join us as a volunteer and experience a Cuba few tourists ever see. Meet, interact and make friends for life with a people known for their joie de vivre and laughter; experience Cuba as a friend...not a tourist.
The program begins with a 5 day orientation tour of the city of Havana in an air conditioned bus with a bilingual tour guide. Volunteers will see many points of interest both historical and cultural.
In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to:
1. Attend or participate in the Havana Terry Fox, Marathon of Hope Run. The annual Terry Fox, Marathon of Hope Run is a major event throughout Cuba with runs held all over the country starting at 10 am. The Havana Run begins at the Capitol building (see photo above) on the edge of Old Havana. I have been working with the Terry Fox Foundation and will be taking materials that they have donated about Terry to Havana to use with the students.
2. Be a guest at a reception at the Canadian Embassy in Havana.
3. Be a part of Sunday afternoon Santaria celebration of music and dance. Santaria is one of the major religious belief systems in Cuba.
4. Spend an evening at La Zorra y el Cuervo – one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs.
